China's first popular science museum dedicated to eye health opened its doors in Shanghai during the Hospital Open Day on Sept 12. The museum, located within the Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Center, is set to offer a unique and interactive experience for visitors, with reservations now available for every Saturday from 9 am to 11 am.

The Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Center stands out as the sole public eye hospital in China focusing on the prevention and treatment of eye diseases. President Zou Haidong emphasized the center's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology, such as AI inspection of eye health, and the establishment of the Vision Health Intelligent Management Center to enhance patient care and diagnostic capabilities.

Designed as an immersive and educational space, the eye health museum seeks to empower individuals to take charge of their eye health while offering them a fun and engaging experience. Visitors are invited to embark on a journey through the intricacies of eye health through the lens of different professions like pilot, athlete, and engineer, which they can choose as their identities for the interactive tour.

The exhibition hall is divided into multiple thematic zones catering to individuals of all ages and life stages, offering a comprehensive overview of eye health. Notable features include a simulation of the dark world experienced by visually impaired individuals, highlighting the importance of protecting one's eyesight, as well as a sector showcasing holographic projections illustrating the stages of fetal development.

Through a series of interactive installations, visitors can delve into the process of visual imaging, the anatomy of the eyeball, and the evolution of diagnostic technologies for eye diseases. The museum's focus on hands-on learning and engagement aims to deepen public understanding of eye health and foster a culture of proactive eye care.

The center's executive president, Gao Wei, expressed her enthusiasm about the museum, emphasizing the center's dedication to advancing popular science initiatives on eye health.
