Who is eligible for the 240-hour visa-free transit policy in China?
Here are the required documents for the 240-hour visa-free transit.
1. The applicant must be a citizen of one of the following 54 countries that are eligible for the visa-free transit policy:
Europe (40 countries) |
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Monaco, Russia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, Belarus, and Norway. |

The United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile. |

2. Have a connecting ticket to a third country or region with a confirmed seat and date within 240 hours. You can either get your ticket printed upon arrival at Shanghai airport or display the online itinerary version.
3. Complete the arrival card for foreigners in transit upon reaching China. Some airlines may distribute this card during the flight.
Please be aware that if your passport has less than 3 months of validity remaining, shows Chinese visa refusal stamps, or records of illegal activities within the last 5 years, you will not qualify for the visa-free transit.
No advance application is necessary. Upon arrival in Shanghai, follow the signs in the terminal or inquire at the information desk for guidance to the border control office for on-site processing.
