Q: I want to apply for an "entrepreneurship visa". What type of foreigners can apply for such a visa?

A: Please note that there is no "entrepreneurship visa" in the existing visa lists in China. If you want to start a business in Shanghai, you can apply for a residence permit for work (Innovation and Entrepreneurship). You can refer to the application eligibility below.

Who can apply:

(1) Foreigners who meet any of the following conditions may apply for a residence permit for private affairs (marked ″entrepreneurship″):

• Foreign students who intend to engage in innovation and entrepreneurship in Shanghai and are fresh graduates from a Chinese university;
• Foreigners who plan to invest or engage in innovation and entrepreneurship in Shanghai;
• Excellent foreign graduates who graduated from key universities in China or well-known overseas universities less than two years ago and who are engaged in innovation and entrepreneurship in Shanghai;
• Foreign members of the innovation and entrepreneurship teams that are introduced by key development fields and industries in China;

(2) Foreigners who meet the following conditions can apply for personal affairs residence documents:

• Outstanding foreign graduates from key domestic or internationally renowned universities specializing in innovation and entrepreneurship in Shanghai; and
• Foreign postdoctoral researchers conducting research at Shanghai Postdoctoral Mobile Station or Postdoctoral Workstation.
