City of blossoms: Vibrant flower festivals

With spring in full swing and a string of holidays drawing near, Shanghai has transformed into a city of blossoms. Across its districts, vibrant flower festivals and springtime events are attracting both residents and visitors to enjoy the seasonal beauty through immersive cultural, artistic, and recreational experiences.

 

Pudong: Sunland Peony Festival

The 2025 Sunland Peony Festival is now underway at the Pudong Peony Garden, where the air is filled with the lush fragrance of blooming flowers. As you stroll through the garden, blooming peonies intertwine with buds still waiting to blossom. It's a sensory feast of springtime beauty — perfect for a holiday getaway.

Huangpu: Yuyuan Mid-Spring Flower Festival

The annual Mid-Spring Flower Festival at Yuyuan Garden is now in full bloom. The central plaza, nine-turn bridge, and golden plaza are decked out in seasonal spring colors — from delicate peach pinks to vibrant spring greens and soft blue grays. Light and shadow bring to life the grandeur of ancient spring festivals. Don’t miss the Ancient Ladies with Flower Hairpins and Melodies Among Blossoms performances, where traditional paintings come to life on stage.

Putuo: Thousand Trees Cherry Blossom Season

The 900-meter cherry blossom corridor along Suzhou Creek is a city-wide sensation. The 2025 Thousand Trees Cherry Blossom Season features three major themes, with over 40 stunning booths, dreamy boat rides, and a crossover anime celebration.

Yangpu: The 24th Urban Forest Flower Exhibition

The 24th Urban Forest Flower Exhibition, with the tagline "Enjoy the Blooms of Spring, Embrace a Beautiful Life", has opened at Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park. Spanning five vibrant zones — Rainbow Forest, Floral Bloom, Rosy Mist, Radiant Spring, and Floral Impressions — the exhibition showcases a rich tapestry of floral colors, fragrances, shapes, cultivation techniques, and landscape artistry, offering visitors an immersive and delightful flower-viewing experience.

Baoshan: Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival

Running until mid-April, the 2025 Cherry Blossom Festival at Gucun Park invites you to explore 12 main events and four special side activities with the tagline "Blossoms by the Sea, A Floral Wonderland". This year, the park is also allowing cherry blossoms to be viewed at night — a dreamy experience of storytelling and illuminated petals, perfect for romantic spring evenings.

Minhang: Festival of Life

At Pujiang Country Park, the Pujiang Festival of Life features open-air markets, exhibitions, gourmet treats, and over 35 seasonal activities. Whether you're enjoying a family picnic or a weekend stroll through the city, you're sure to discover your own space to recharge here.

Jinshan: Leha Flower Sea – Springtime Bloom Fest

Spring is in full swing during the annual spring wildflower season in Jinshan district. A wide variety of blooms — including baby blue eyes, toadflax, Iceland poppies, and Chinese violet cress — are flowering in succession. In the flower gardens, cherry plums, tulips, lupines, and crabapple blossoms are at their peak. Visitors can enjoy boating, cycling, flying kites, camping, and picnicking amid a sea of flowers.

Fengxian: The 18th Shanghai Fengxian Rapeseed Flower Festival

At this lively festival, visitors can explore immersive experiences such as circus shows, carriage parades, interactive exhibits with "flower deities", and 17 cultural performances, including concerts and retro Shanghai songs. Exciting new experiences include a flower field train and even sightseeing helicopter rides over rapeseed fields. The helicopter tour offers a unique aerial view of the blooming landscape.

Chongming: The 2025 Chongming Flower Festival & Coffee Culture Festival

With the tagline "Blooming Islands and Fragrant Shores", the 2025 Chongming Flower Festival and Coffee Culture Festival spans nearly two months, with rotating events held across the district's islands. The main venue at Dongping National Forest Park features five floral zones — Spring Rhapsody, Dreamy Petal Rain, Colorful Flower Sea, Romantic Encounters, and Woodland Bloomscape. There's also a five-in-one garden tour experience that blends traditional culture with natural beauty. Whether you're here for the blooms, the brews, or cultural exploration — Chongming's got you covered.
