Light up Qingpu: Top experiences at Shanghai's light festival
The Qingpu sub-venue of the 2025 Shanghai International Light Festival is set to take place from Sept 21 to Oct 11, with daily events from 6 pm to 10 pm.
Theme
This year's festival celebrates fire as its central symbol, using fireflies as a motif to illuminate the district. Fireflies in five colors, representing ecology, daily life, innovation, art, and humanity, will guide visitors through a narrative spanning 6,000 years of civilization.
Event highlights
Visitors to the Qingpu sub-venue can experience a variety of light fountain shows, water laser displays, and art installations across multiple locations. The picturesque village of Songze will serve as the main venue, with three major areas forming scenic light routes: West Hongqiao International Central Business District, Qingpu New City Central Business District, and the Qingpu segment of the Yangtze River Delta Demonstration Zone Pilot Area.
Within these three major areas, key exhibition sites such as Songze Lane, Qingpu Bailian Outlets, Oasis Smart Valley Garden, Panlong Tiandi, and Robotek Smart Hub will each showcase the festival's five themes, promising a diverse and immersive experience for all.
1. Fire of ecology
Songze Lane will present the "fire of ecology", showcasing a dialogue between nature and history. Set in the 6,000-year-old village of Songze, this area blends modern leisure with traditional culture. Visitors can explore a unique corridor where neon lights trace prehistoric relics, offering a journey through time and a glimpse into the symbiosis of nature and human civilization.
2. Fire of daily life
At Qingpu Bailian Outlets, China's first open-air outlet, the "fire of daily life" transforms aurora fountains into a dazzling galaxy. Water curtains and neon lights create a dreamlike shopping atmosphere, while storefronts shimmer like kaleidoscopes, weaving the night into a luminous gown. The result is a perfect fusion of leisure and romance, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a magical evening.
3. Fire of innovation
Oasis Smart Valley | Huayuanli, inspired by the concept of a "cloud oasis, urban forest", offers a new open commercial environment where industry and city coexist. Vines climb ancient trees, fireflies dart across the night sky, and interactive light displays and firefly costume parades bring a vivid fairy tale to life. The "fire of innovation" illuminates limitless possibilities for the future.
4. Fire of art
In Panlong Tiandi shopping area, the Jiangnan water town transforms into a platform for art, where ancient cultural heritage and contemporary charm coexist in harmony. Bluestone slabs are etched with mottled light shadows, and boats meet at the 10 scenic spots of Panlong in the water alleys. As the boat pole stirs the moonlight, the charm of Jiangnan emerges from the ink painting, with the "fire of art" igniting every moment of inspiration.
5. Fire of humanity
Robotek Smart Hub is a family-friendly mall themed around children, combining dining, retail, tea and coffee, and education experiences to meet all-day entertainment needs. It serves as both a shopping destination and a warm space for family bonding, where the "fire of humanity" ignites beautiful moments. The upcoming event promises to enchant visitors with a light and sound concert, a vibrant market, and a lifestyle festival.
Beyond the mesmerizing light shows, Qingpu will enhance the festival experience by partnering with a range of cultural and commercial tourism activities. Special promotions and nighttime attractions, such as night tours and vibrant markets, will be launched to invite you to enjoy an evening brimming with surprises and illumination.
