Museums extend hours for Golden Week with special events

In celebration of this year's National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, known as Golden Week (Oct 1 to 8), the Shanghai Astronomy Museum and Shanghai Natural History Museum will extend their opening hours and present a rich program of special events.

From Oct 1 to 7, the Shanghai Astronomy Museum will remain open until 8 pm, offering visitors more time to explore the cosmos. Starting Oct 8, the museum's regular closing time will shift from 4 pm to 5 pm.

During the Golden Week, the museum will host a variety of immersive and interactive activities centered on technology and culture:

  • Embark on the Sam Walk guided tour to delve into the awe-inspiring journey of China's space exploration achievements.
  • The Stars Fallen, Greatness Risen exhibition is a must-see, featuring themed performances and engaging meteorite exploration activities.
  • Don't miss the public moon-watching event, where educational-grade telescopes will be set up in outdoor areas, offering fascinating insights into the lunar surface.
  • Experience the wonder of the night sky with an immersive exploration program, combining science lectures, starry sky concerts, and simulated stargazing. High-precision optical planetariums and dome theaters will enhance this breathtaking astronomical journey.
  • A special Mid-Autumn program will recreate Shanghai's autumn night sky with stunning accuracy.

Following the Shanghai Astronomy Museums' extended hours, the Shanghai Natural History Museum will also shift its hours until 10 pm on Oct 1 and until 9 pm from Oct 2 to 7.

Alongside the popular China's Dinosaur World exhibition, the museum will host the National Day dragon wonder night event, featuring seven consecutive days of exciting activities:

  • Children can enjoy a storytelling session where experts engage them with interactive Q&A, revealing the fascinating tales behind the museum's collections.
  • The electronic music night promises to bridge ancient nature with modern technology, transforming the museum into a lively, futuristic soundscape.
  • Participate in the dinosaur-themed lab, where visitors can engage in creative workshops to discover the secrets of dinosaur fossils, habits, and paleontological research.
  • The anime and manga cultural event will captivate young attendees with cosplayer parades and performances by idol groups, offering a unique blend of nature and pop culture.
  • Dive into Detective Night, where the dinosaur hall transforms into a thrilling crime scene, using paleontological evidence as clues for an immersive exploration experience.
