Must-see highlights

🌟 Fuxing Island reborn

Fuxing Island, renowned for its natural beauty and extensive riverfront, still preserves numerous industrial relics, bearing witness to Shanghai's modern industrial legacy. Following recent renovations, the island has emerged as an innovative waterfront destination that harmonizes technology, art, and ecology.

This season marks the grand debut of the renovated Fuxing Island, which preserves its industrial cyber aesthetic while integrating artistic design and cutting-edge technology, complemented by a diverse array of exhibitions and performances.

🎨 New stage for art

Among the standout features of this season is the debut of the outdoor exhibition area at Fuxing Island's Chuantai Park. The park's preserved industrial landmarks, including the massive cranes of the Zhonghua Shipyard, expansive shipbuilding platforms, and the wide high-pile wharves along the Huangpu River, create a unique space where industry and nature coexist.

Visitors can revel in contemporary art expressions while exploring the industrial remnants, immersing themselves in the historical depth and mysterious allure of Fuxing Island.

🎭 International art extravaganza

This year's art season invites distinguished artists, design studios, and emerging architects from around the globe to draw inspiration from Fuxing Island's industrial heritage. By tapping into the island's historical memory, spatial texture, and cultural backdrop, they employ multi-media techniques such as lighting, digital imagery, and AI to craft surreal and cyberpunk art scenes.

Additionally, experts and academic teams from leading institutions such as Tongji University, the Technical University of Munich, and RMIT University will showcase their cutting-edge architectural and spatial works.

📅 Unstoppable carnival

Spanning three months, the art season promises a continuous celebration with monthly activities. The festival will feature technology forums, art performances, music festivals, trendy sports, and interactive events for everyone.

Highlights include the second Shanghai International Light Festival's Yangpu sub-venue, which will illuminate the riverside night sky with technology and light; the Celebili Music Festival, which will bring youthful energy to the forefront; and the Sino-Europe Cultural Carnival, offering a rich array of artistic performances that foster cultural exchange and integration.

During Golden Week (Oct 1-8), the island transforms into an all-ages playground, featuring thrilling drone shows, energetic street dance battles, and creative workshops, providing fresh and exciting experiences throughout the holiday.

🌙 Romantic nighttime experience

As dusk falls, Fuxing Island reveals a different kind of beauty. Seek out nocturnal flora and fauna, or gaze at the stars in one of Shanghai's rare urban dark zones.

Moreover, nighttime art installations will collaborate with the Shanghai International Light Festival, creating an artistic nocturnal journey through the island's industrial heritage.

From Sept 30 to Oct 7, the main exhibition area on Fuxing Island will remain open until 9 pm, with other times extended until 8 pm.
