Jing'an district welcomes Chinese New Year with 100+ festive events
With Spring Festival just around the corner, Jing'an district is rolling out an exciting lineup of celebrations running through March 3. From cultural showcases and interactive performances to shopping perks and family activities, the district's 195 scheduled events offer something for everyone amid the festive season.
Light & projection display
From Feb 15 to 23, vibrant projections inspired by art master Xu Beihong's iconic horse paintings will light up Zhangyuan commercial complex and North Maoming Road, blending traditional Chinese New Year symbolism with contemporary digital art. Visitors can also redeem free vouchers for the world's first VR musical film Yao A Yao during this period.
Pop-up circus performances
Daily pop-up circus performances will take place at popular spots such as Life Hub @ Daning, Daning Music Plaza, Zhangyuan, and Yongyuan Road from Feb 17 to 23. Between shows, guests can meet and interact with the horses.
Shoppers can also join a stamp rally — collecting stamps from participating businesses to win a 2026 Shanghai Circus World annual pass and receiving discounts on show tickets with qualifying purchases.
Expats celebrate Chinese New Year
On Feb 11, international residents and visitors will be invited to take part in cultural activities across Jing'an landmarks. Highlights include writing Spring Festival couplets, trying on traditional hanfu clothing while learning about Song Dynasty (960-1279) brocade weaving, making Shanghai-style wontons with local chefs, and sharing a festive meal. Bilingual guides will help guests connect with the traditions and warm community spirit of the season.
Tourism stamp-collecting challenge
From now until Feb 21, visitors arriving in Shanghai can pick up a stamp map at Hongqiao and Pudong airports and various tourist information centers across the city to participate in a stamp-collecting challenge and win exciting rewards. Additionally, the Jing'an tourist information center on Anyi Road offers a special perk: after completing the stamp challenge, follow the "静安文旅 (Jing'an district administration of culture and tourism)" WeChat account to receive a chance to enter a lucky draw.
