Flower festival opens with fields of ornamental poppies and spring fun

The 2026 Ninth Annual Poppy Culture and Tourism Festival opened on April 26 at Shanghai Blooming Garden. Set in an expansive countryside park, the event offers a serene escape into nature with flower fields, outdoor activities, and special holiday programming.

2. Outdoor activities

Horse riding, cycling, boating, camping, picnicking, pet-friendly walks, rainbow slides, swings, and a scenic train ride — a day full of nature-filled fun.

3. May Day holiday highlights

During the May Day holiday (May 1-5), the park will host a flower-themed music festival, a drone light show, a fun melon-eating contest, and creative bouquet making using flowers and vegetables.

From May 2 to 4, between 1:30 pm and 3 pm, interactive performances will enhance the festive mood. Expect funny clowns, surprise magic tricks, and close-up interaction for the whole family.

4. Ticket price

30 yuan ($4.38) per adult

5. How to get there

  • By car: Drive to the ticket office of Shanghai Blooming Garden. There are 2,000 free parking spaces available in the tree-shaded parking area.
  • By public transportation (option 1): Take Metro Line 1 to Lianhua Road Station → Lianzhu Express Bus → Zhujing Bus Station → Jinfeng Bus to Tingfeng Highway Shanghai Blooming Garden → walk 50 meters, then take a complimentary shuttle to the park entrance.
  • By public transportation (option 2): Take Metro Line 1 to Lianhua Road Station → DZ Lelian Bus to Tingfeng Highway Shanghai Blooming Garden → walk 50 meters, then take a complimentary shuttle to the park entrance.
  • Direct express bus: On weekends and public holidays, the DZ Jinshan Tourism Line 1 runs directly between People's Square and Shanghai Blooming Garden — reservations required.
  • By high-speed rail: Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station → Jinshanbei Railway Station → Shanghai Blooming Garden.
