May Day flower trail: 10 spots across Shanghai

The 2026 Shanghai International Flower Show is blooming across Shanghai, with 10 sub-venues offering seasonal displays for the May Day holiday. From waterfront walks and shopping districts to forest parks and lakeside gardens, here are 10 spots to explore.

1. Pudong sub-venue

Locations: Qiantan area (Taikoo Li Qiantan, Crystal Plaza, Qiantan Park, and more), Zhangjiang area (Wisdom Bay, Twin Towers, and L City), Lujiazui area, Time Edition shopping zone, and the Jinqiao area

Highlights:

  • A two-kilometer flower route stretches along Qiantan, with more than 100 events including flower exhibitions, an intangible cultural heritage lifestyle fair, markets, concerts, jazz festivals, and a beauty festival.
  • Zhangjiang features tech-themed floral installations along an interactive route, while Lujiazui offers a display area showcasing the characteristic flower landscapes of Yangtze River Delta cities.

How to get there:

  • Qiantan: Metro lines 6, 8, or 11 to Oriental Sports Center Station.
  • Zhangjiang: Metro Line 2 to Zhangjiang High Technology Park Station or Jinke Road Station.
  • Lujiazui: Metro Line 2 to Lujiazui Station.
  • Public transit is recommended as parking is limited.

2. Xuhui sub-venue

Locations: West Bund waterfront (from Ruining Road to Longyao Road along Longteng Avenue), Gate M Nest Park, Gate M West Bund Dream Center, and West Bund Central

Highlights:

  • Xuhui sub-venue features nearly 40 scenic spots, four flower markets, and over 20 events.
  • The flower show runs alongside the Shanghai Shopping Festival, Windows Arts Season, and Jazz Spring Music Festival.

How to get there:

  • Bus: Puxi Binjiang Bus Line 1 to Longteng Avenue Ruining Road Station, Fenggu Road Station, or Longlan Road Station.
  • Metro: Lines 4 or 12 to Damuqiao Road Station (Exit 6), Lines 7 or 12 to Middle Longhua Road Station (Exit 5), Lines 11 or 12 to Longhua Station (Exit 2), or Line 11 to Yunjin Road Station (Exit 2).
  • Parking is available at West Bund Central, Gate M Nest Park, Gate M West Bund Dream Center, and West Bund Museum.

3. Jing'an sub-venue

Locations: Suhe Bay Green Space, West Nanjing Road commercial area, Daning commercial area, and several citizen horticulture centers

Highlights:

  • The first Jing'an International Flower Show features a range of events, including a garden economy conference, a floral arrangement competition, and a garden creative exhibition.
  • The popular art installation of a West Highland White Terrier, nicknamed the "messy pup", is also on display.

How to get there:

  • Suhe Bay: Metro lines 10 or 12 to Tiantong Road Station, then walk west for about 200 meters.
  • West Nanjing Road: Metro lines 2, 12, or 13 to West Nanjing Road Station or lines 2, 7, or 14 to Jing'an Temple Station.
  • Bus lines 14, 15, 17, 64, and 929 also serve these areas.
  • Parking is available at Suhe MixC World or nearby shopping mall lots.

4. Changning sub-venue

Locations: Zhongshan Park area, Linkong Huiju area (Changning Outer Ring Greenway and Livat Shanghai), Wutong Xingfu area (Wuyi Mix 320, Columbia Circle, and more), Tianshan Hongqiao area (J Town, The Place, and more), and Xijiao Senhuo area (Shanghai Zoo and Bailian Xijiao).

Highlights:

  • The venue features a Pokemon-themed flower field with large photo-friendly installations that include a six-meter Snorlax.
  • Elegant vintage-style floral displays make the area an ideal spot for a romantic date.
  • Pet-friendly flower zones allow visitors to enjoy the season with their furry companions.

How to get there:

  • Zhongshan Park: Metro lines 2, 3, or 4 to Zhongshan Park Station, then take a themed flower bus.
  • Linkong Huiju: Metro Line 2 to Songhong Road Station, or buses 876, 836, 190, 141, or 808.
  • Wutong Xingfu: Metro lines 10 or 11 to Jiao Tong University Station, or buses 76, 71, 44, or 57.
  • Tianshan Hongqiao: Metro Line 2 to Loushanguan Road Station, or buses 88, 69, 141, 808, 72, 737, or 71.
  • Xijiao Senhuo: Metro Line 2 to Beixinjing Station, or buses 54, 836, 739, 807, or 88.
  • Parking is available at Zhongshan Park, Livat, and Columbia Circle.

5. Fengxian sub-venue

Locations: Pao Pao Park near Jinhai Lake, and Dingfeng Jiangyuan

Highlights:

  • The venue showcases 14 future gardens created by university students from across the Yangtze River Delta, bringing youthful energy and creative ideas into the flower fields.
  • Seven corporate exhibition gardens, five creatively renovated industrial heritage sites, and three floral art photo spots inject new life into old industrial grounds.

How to get there:

  • Jinhai Lake: Metro Line 5 to Jinhai Lake Station, then transfer to bus 457, Fengxian 11, Fengxian 21, Haishen Line, or Nanshen Line. Parking is available at P1, P2, and P3.
  • Dingfeng Jingyuan: Metro Line 5 to Fengpu Avenue Station, then bus Fengxian 17, 17B, or 32 to Nanqiao Town Station, followed by a 10-minute walk.

6. Fuxing Island sub-venue

Location: Fuxing Island Shipyard Park

Highlights:

  • The venue offers a mix of public art, ecological education, and immersive experiences.
  • The installations are themed around Shanghai's four native flowers: white magnolia, iris, azalea, and rose.

How to get there: Bus or cycling is recommended.

7. Lin-gang sub-venue

Locations: Dishui Lake Pier No 1 rose wall, lakeside rose garden, hydrangea garden in North Zone 3 of the Second Ring Urban Park, A2 of Chunhua Qiuse Park, and Shanghai Flower Port

Highlights:

  • The Lin-gang sub-venue features 34 designer gardens, 20 public welfare gardens designed by university student groups, and 60 display booths showcasing new and improved flower varieties.
  • A vast floral wonderland also includes a pet-friendly garden space and a children's nature and art lab.

How to get there:

  • Shanghai Flower Port: Take Metro Line 16 to Lingang Avenue Station, then transfer to bus 1078 or a customized shuttle bus. Buses Pudong 7, 1077, 1043, and Shengang 1 also reach the port.
  • Pier No 1/lakeside rose garden/hydrangea garden: Take Metro Line 16 to Dishui Lake Station, then walk or take a taxi.
  • Chunhua Qiuse Park: Take Metro Line 16 to Lingang Avenue Station or Dishui Lake Station, then transfer by bus or taxi. Buses Lingang 4, 1043, and Shengang 1 also serve the area.

8. Chenshan Botanical Garden sub-venue

Location: Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden (tropical flower and fruit hall, rare plant hall, and shared exhibition hall)

Highlights:

  • The venue showcases the diversity of orchids, featuring the Orchid Journey in Hall A, Southeast Asian Orchid Charm in Hall C, and a fragrant orchid showcase in the shared exhibition hall.
  • Visitors can also participate in special gardening activities.

How to get there:

  • Metro Line 9 to Dongjing Station, then transfer to buses Songjiang 19 or 96 to Gate 1, or to Songjiang 95 to Gate 1 from Sheshan Station. Songjiang 95 serves gates 2 and 3, and the Songzhu Line reaches Gate 2.
  • By car, take the G60 Hukun Expressway and exit at Songjiang South, or take the G50 Huyu Expressway and exit at Zhaoxiang.

9. Gongqing Forest Park sub-venue

Location: Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park (near the south and west gates)

Highlights:

  • To mark its 40th anniversary, the park has rolled out five exhibition zones featuring themed floral displays.
  • Visitors can also enjoy artistic installations such as a Monet-inspired garden, as well as a pinecone market, forest observation activities, and a forest marathon.

How to get there:

  • Parking is available at both the south and west gates.
  • A special shuttle runs from Shiguang Road Station (Exit 4) on weekends and holidays from 8 am to 6 pm every 15 minutes.

10. Binjiang Forest Park sub-venue

Location: Phase I of Binjiang Forest Park

Highlights:

  • At the Binjiang Forest Park sub-venue, azaleas are in full bloom. Spanning nearly 50,000 square meters, the garden features 126 varieties and over 20,000 plants.
  • Beyond the blossoms, the park offers a peaceful retreat where nature and culture collide.

How to get there:

  • Metro Line 6 or 10 to Gangcheng Road Station, then transfer to bus Waigaoqiao 1 to the park gate. Buses Pudong 17, Waigaoqiao 3, 81, 640, and 181 also go to Gangcheng Road Station, where you can switch to Waigaoqiao 1. Alternatively, take bus 971 or Pudong 78 to Gaoqiao town and transfer from there.
  • By car, parking is available at Gate 1 with 300 spaces, and Gate 2 has an additional 1,500 spaces during busy periods.

Suggested itineraries

Urban Route (metro accessible)

Pudong → Jing'an → Changning → Fuxing Island → Xuhui

All five stops are along metro lines.

Countryside route (car recommended)

Fengxian → Lin-gang → Chenshan Botanical Garden → Gongqing Forest Park → Binjiang Forest Park

All five locations have parking and shuttle services.
