2026 Shanghai Tourism Festival summer season: Urban exploration highlights

The 2026 Shanghai Tourism Festival summer season runs from July 8 through Aug 31, bringing 170 culture, tourism, and lifestyle activities to venues across the city.

This guide focuses on urban exploration, highlighting city landmarks, trendy neighborhoods, and creative spaces. From theme parks and skyscraper views to summer carnivals and riverside festivals, here are the top urban experiences to check out.

Lego Festival

The Lego Festival makes its debut at Legoland Shanghai Resort, with a new 4,000-square-meter area featuring five themed zones. Featuring FIFA World Cup 2026 and Formula 1-themed experiences, the festival combines interactive games, creative building activities, and live performances to create a summer carnival.

The resort also marked its first anniversary on July 5. Birthday-themed decorations are on display, while special nighttime drone shows are scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Aug 31.

Jinmao Tower observation deck

Jinmao Tower is offering family packages and skywalk combo tickets throughout the summer. Visitors can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of Shanghai from the 88th-floor observation deck.

EKA Tianwu summer carnival

This summer hotspot offers a mix of music, food, shopping, and entertainment. The lineup includes weekend waterfront concerts, weekday rock performances, an all-day market, pet fashion shows, pet-friendly concerts, and pool games.

Indoor highlights include an immersive music exhibition and fun competitions such as screw-tightening, peanut-shelling, and sunflower-seed-eating contests.

Summer Fantasy Night

The 52-day Summer Fantasy Night returns with upgraded offerings across the Grand Yuyuan area. The program connects two main destinations: the Summer Yu-Niverse garden fair at Yuyuan Garden Malls and the Wonderland Carnival at Bund Finance Center.

Yuyuan Garden Malls has teamed up with Bilibili to create interactive experiences inspired by popular Chinese animation and intangible cultural heritage. Meanwhile, BFC's Wonderland Carnival features rotating themed activities, art installations, family activities, and brand pop-ups. Highlights include the Butterbear baking-themed exhibition and a 1,000-square-meter summer water park.

Jing'an Fashion Culture Week

This year's event features opening shows, Chinese-inspired fashion showcases, industry dialogues, and pet-themed fashion parades at venues including Zhangyuan and Suhewan MixC World.

The week also brings pop-up events and art exhibitions across commercial districts, blending traditional aesthetics, smart technology, and homegrown design.

6th Half Marathon Suzhou Creek Cultural Tourism Festival

The festival opens on July 11 at the Shanghai History Museum, alongside the exhibition From Yuan Dynasty Water Gates to Waibaidu Bridge: The History and Culture of Suzhou Creek. A series of events centered around Suzhou Creek will continue through October, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the city's historical roots.
