Guide to applying for a Temporary License for Foreign Physician to Practice Medicine in China

Foreign physicians wishing to practice temporarily in China must follow specific procedures to obtain the necessary license. Here's an overview of the requirements and application process.

Foreign physicians must meet the following criteria:

1. Hold a foreign passport, possess a medical degree from abroad, and have obtained a medical license or certification to practice abroad.

2. Be employed by a medical institution in China that holds a valid Medical Institution Practice License (医疗机构执业许可证) and has agreed to hire the physician.

Applications are accepted Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm (excluding public holidays, no lunch break). The application offices are located at:

    • Window 3 or the Comprehensive Window (No 1 to No 4), No 55 Wuyuan Road, Xuhui district

Applicants should prepare the following materials:

1. A copy of the Medical Institution Practice License (医疗机构执业许可证).

2. A health certificate.

3. Two recent photos.

4. A work resume.

5. Proof of identity.

6. The Application Form for Foreign Physicians to Practice Temporarily in China.

7. Foreign medical license or certification, along with notarized documents.

8. Foreign medical degree, along with notarized documents.

9. Proof of employment or an invitation from the hiring medical institution, along with an agreement or statement assuming civil liability.

1. All submitted documents must be in Chinese. Translated foreign documents must also include the original version.

2. Application materials (including forms) must be printed on A4-sized paper and filled out with a pen or printed.

3. Ensure that all application details are complete, clear, and consistent. Any discrepancies or errors will lead to delays.

4. All photocopies must be clear and identical to the originals.

5. The application form must be stamped with an official seal.

6. Arrange application materials in the order specified above.

7. The processing time is six business days.

8. The approval is valid for one year.
