Shanghai kicks off food street season with Americas flavors
Shanghai launched the second Shanghai Food Street Season at Laowaijie on May 15, as part of the ongoing Global Taste in Shanghai: Americas Flavors campaign.
Running from May 15 to June 30, the season aims to promote dining innovation, strengthen connections across the city's culture, commerce, tourism, sports, and exhibition sectors, and offer locals and visitors an immersive culinary experience.
Americas flavors take center stage
Laowaijie, Fengshengli, and New Bund Red Lane each celebrated the Americas barbecue with their own twist.
Laowaijie hosted the Americas BBQ Festival from May 15 to 17, featuring barbecue brands from more than 10 countries, over 20 food stalls, live DJs and bands, Zumba sessions, and interactive games.
New Bund Red Lane held the New Bund Meat Fest on May 16 and 17, featuring 64 international flavor vendors, 20 burger brands, and 20 American barbecue stalls, making it Shanghai's largest meat festival to date.
For those who missed these events, the celebration continues through June. Fengshengli showcases Goose Island's national flagship store alongside multiple Western restaurants offering Americas-themed set menus for two, as well as Mediterranean fusion dishes.
Cultural heritage and traditions
Qibao Ancient Town draws on its water town heritage with intangible cultural heritage experiences and a Dunhuang-style fair running through June.
Nanxiang Old Street, with activities running through late May, hosts more than 30 stalls at Yunxiang Temple, serving regional snacks and creative products, alongside traditional games such as pitch-pot and ring-toss.
Xintiandi is presenting a cultural market inspired by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through June. Partnering with Macao's ICH souvenirs and brands from nine cities, it features landmark replicas, dialect interactions, and skill demonstrations.
Global flavors and creative dining
Lidoway in May and EKA Tianwu in mid-May blend European flair with industrial aesthetics. Lidoway, themed "Spring in Slowly", offers French crepes, Italian gelato, German sausages, floral displays, pet-friendly activities, and street theater. EKA Tianwu offers terrace brunches and afternoon tea packages. On May 20, it will host a music festival pairing jazz and electronic music with craft beer and charcoal-grilled pork ribs, creating a lively and artistic nighttime scene.
Youthful energy and floral delights
From May through June, Daxue Road hosts the Knowledge Art Festival, thousand-person farewell dinners, graduation-themed set menus, graduation design exhibitions, and pop-up musical performances.
Hong Shou Fang showcases a flower-themed dining street with creative floral dishes, flower-themed night markets, and pop-up cooking workshops. By leveraging Xiaohongshu to engage audiences both online and offline, it offers a distinctive floral culinary experience.
