Shanghai's annual food event series, Global Taste in Shanghai, is connecting cuisine with sports, summer lifestyles, and culture, offering residents and visitors fresh ways to savor summer flavors. During the peak summer season, the series is bringing three themed events to Huangpu, Jing'an, and Putuo districts, each offering a distinct experience that goes beyond the dining table.

In Huangpu, the focus was on healthy lifestyles. On July 30, an event in Dapuqiao subdistrict unveiled the Huangpu Global Food and Health Route map. The map showcases a curated selection of sports venues and international restaurants in the area, including the Citizens Fitness Center of Huangpu District, Shanghai Huangpu Brothers Shipyard rowing experience center, and BFC Fitness. Dining options such as The Refinery, Tomatito, and Blue Frog are also featured. By connecting exercise spaces with dining destinations, the route encourages residents to integrate healthy activities with diverse culinary experiences in their daily routines.

Transitioning from healthy routines to summer treats, Jing'an offered visitors a refreshing escape during the season's hottest days. From July 30 to Aug 2, a summer ice dessert event at Crystal Plus shopping center featured specialty ice desserts from 15 cities across China and more than 30 popular food brands. The event offered a wide variety of choices, including low-fat yogurt desserts, traditional Italian gelato, and creative dessert and cocktail combinations. The event drew 276,000 visits, up 162 percent year-on-year, while retail sales in the surrounding commercial area increased by 141.8 percent compared with the same period last year.

The summer food tour continues in Putuo later this month, with a focus on regional specialties. From Aug 21 to 23, Hong Shou Fang will host a culinary event highlighting potato-based dishes and the food customs of Guizhou province. As part of Shanghai's Global Taste regional food series, the event will introduce Guizhou snacks to Shanghai audiences while featuring displays of the province's mountain scenery, traditional craft workshops, and interactive experiences.

Visitors can discover the various ways potatoes are used in Guizhou cuisine while gaining insight into the landscapes and cultural traditions that have shaped the region's distinctive flavors.
