The Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration recently added 74 registered trademarks from 49 enterprises and institutions to the Shanghai Key Trademark Protection List, bringing the total number of key protected trademarks to 1,089.

This batch has four key features:

1. Diverse and Representative Protection: Trademarks from healthcare and cultural sectors like "Ruijin Hospital" are included, along with popular brands like "Zhang Liang" spicy hot pot.

2. Focus on New Industries: Trademarks from emerging sectors, including the "IM" electric vehicle brand from SAIC Motor and the "Adora Magic City" cruise ship, are included.

3. Protection of Traditional Brands: Time-honored trademarks like "Forever" bicycle brand and "Yuyuan" are included.

4. International Trademark Protection: The list includes 12 trademarks from six foreign enterprises, such as L'Oréal, ZF and Muji.

Shanghai has achieved five main outcomes in key trademark protection: strengthening supervision and enforcement by including key trademarks in annual protection plans and organizing special actions to combat infringements; combating malicious trademark registrations by strictly dealing with such cases and encouraging enterprises to invalidate maliciously registered trademarks; incorporating regional collaborative protection by recommending key trademarks for cross-provincial protection under the Yangtze River Delta framework; supporting overseas trademark rights protection through expert guidance and financial support; and enhancing online monitoring by regularly conducting internet surveillance to promptly identify and address infringements.

Moving forward, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration aims to address various trademark concerns and step up protection efforts to foster a top-tier business environment characterized by marketization, rule of law, and internationalization.
