Main forum highlights AI and IP at 22nd Shanghai Intl IP Forum
The main forum of the 22nd Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum was held on Oct 18, bringing experts and scholars together to discuss "Intellectual Property (IP) and Artificial Intelligence". Rui Wenbiao, director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, chaired the session.
Speakers included Jiang Tong, director of the Examination Business Management Department, Patent Office, China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA); Chen Hongbing, director of the Madrid Operations Division, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO); Akshat Devan, researcher at the Intellectual Property and Frontier Technologies Division, WIPO; Yang Fan, co-founder, executive director and president of the SenseCore Business Group, SenseTime Group Inc; and Xu Chunming, professor at the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property, Tongji University.
They discussed integrating AI with patent systems, driving process optimization and digital transformation, applying AI in WIPO operations, fostering corporate innovation, addressing legal challenges, and policy implications for IP development.
During the roundtable, experts explored AI and IP protection, data-related IP, and AI-enabled services, highlighting mutual empowerment, cross-sector collaboration, and practical steps for AI adoption in IP systems.
Yu Chen, deputy director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, moderated the roundtable and urged closer dialogue among policymakers, researchers, and industry aimed at translating discussions into effective policies, standards, and services that foster innovation.
The forum provided insights on how AI and IP can evolve together, offering guidance to advance innovation and foster cooperation.
