A training program on the effective use of the World Intellectual Property Organization service system was held in Shanghai's Songjiang district on April 9, attracting over 150 participants from enterprises and intellectual property service institutions.

The event was jointly organized by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration and the WIPO Office in China, and hosted by the Songjiang branch of SIPA, with officials and experts attending the opening ceremony.

Lyu Guoqiang, head of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service, said the program focused on key services, including Patent Cooperation Treaty applications, Madrid System trademarks registrations and alternative dispute resolution for international IP disputes.

He added that these tools support industrial development and help enterprises enter and grow in the global market, encouraging IP rights holders to use these rights more effectively to drive investment, employment and growth.

Officials from SIPA said the city is implementing a memorandum of understanding signed with WIPO to promote international IP cooperation and competition.

A representative from Songjiang said the training, held in the district for the first time, aims to enhance enterprises' capacity to use WIPO services and improve their ability to handle overseas IP disputes.

Experts from the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the WIPO Office in China and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service shared insights and engaged in discussions with participants.
