Can I bring pet food to China?

Q: I plan to arrive in Shanghai with my dog. Is it allowed to bring dog food for personal use and in what quantity? Is the import of dry or wet feed of industrial production allowed?
A: According to the relevant regulations, the following animals, plants, and related products are prohibited from being carried or mailed into China:
I. Animals and animal products
- Live animals (except dogs and cats), including all mammals, birds, fish, crustaceans, amphibians, reptiles, insects, other invertebrates, and animal genetic material.
- Meat (raw or cooked), including offal, and all meat products.
- Aquatic animal products, except dried, cooked, or fermented edible sauces made from aquatic animals.
- Milk and dairy products of animal origin, including raw milk, pasteurized milk, sterilized milk, fresh milk, flavored milk, fermented milk, cream, butter, cheese, condensed milk, and similar products.
- Eggs and egg products, including fresh eggs, preserved eggs, salted eggs, liquid eggs, eggshells, and mayonnaise.
- Bird's nest, except canned bird's nest that has been commercially sterilized.
- Oils and fats; hides and skins; raw wool; hooves or claws; bones; teeth; horns and their products. Exceptions: Processed handicrafts made from eggshells, hooves or claws, bones or horns, shells, or crustaceans that are clean and free of blood, muscle, and fat.
- Animal-derived feed, animal-derived traditional Chinese medicinal materials, and animal-derived fertilizers.
II. Plants and plant products
- Fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Fresh cut flowers.
- Tobacco leaves.
- Seeds, seedlings, and other plants, plant products, or materials capable of reproduction.
