Shanghai is home to over 1 million pet dogs and 1.2 million pet cats. To meet the needs of our furry friends, more and more pet-friendly public places have been opened. Let’s explore some of these places that welcome our beloved companions. 

 

"Meow Night" at Shanghai Museum

The Shanghai Museum has launched cat-friendly sessions for the exhibition On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt, which allows cat lovers to have a night safari at the museum with their furry friends.

While visiting the exhibition, attendees are able to pose for photos with their pets in the specially designed Cat Temple area of the Secrets of Saqqara exhibition hall. 

Each participant will receive an exclusive customized "Meow Night" limited edition fridge magnet. Attendees who bring their cats will receive special cat-themed cultural gifts and experience the blessings of an ancient civilization.

Wegman and his four-legged muses

US artist William Wegman's solo exhibition, featuring his favorite four-legged models, recently opened at the Fosun Foundation.

The artist's favorite dog models don sunglasses, hats, and fashionable attire, displaying human-like expressions in interesting settings. In this way, Wegman tries to explore human-animal relationship by capturing warmth and humor through his lens. 

Visitors are welcome to bring their dogs to the exhibition.

Meow Lantern Show at Shanghai Film Park

This Meow Lantern Show combines traditional Zigong lanterns with modern creativity to create a dreamlike experience. Over 100 cat-themed lanterns are scattered along the streets of old Shanghai, each with a unique design.

Pet Fair Asia 2024

Pet Fair Asia is the largest exhibition for the pet industry across the Asia-Pacific region and one of the largest in the world. 

This year, the 5-day event is set to gather well over 2,500 exhibitors from around the world. The products on show will cover the entire industry, from pet food to supplies and accessories, grooming, healthcare, veterinary services, technology (apps) and all other types of pet services and products.

New pet-friendly areas in Pudong

Some areas along the Pudong Riverfront have become pet-friendly zones, including the Houtan Riverfront (from Lupu Bridge to Nijiabang Bridge), the Qiantan Leisure Park (excluding the children's playground area), and the Yunxi Riverfront (from Xupu Bridge to the Minhang district border, excluding the children's playground area).

Dog-friendly parks have also been established at Houtan Riverfront and Yunxi Riverfront, making them ideal spots for dog lovers to bring their four-legged friends for a fun outing.
