Shanghai has launched the 2025 selection for outstanding engineers, organized by the Shanghai Institution of Engineers, to honor leading engineering and technical professionals on the frontlines of production and construction.

The awards aim to recognize engineers' contributions, raise their social profile, and drive innovation to boost the city's science and technology capability — supporting Shanghai's vision of becoming a globally influential innovation hub.

Award quotas

This year's SHIE Outstanding Engineer awards will honor up to 20 recipients, including both the SHIE Outstanding Engineer and the SHIE Outstanding Young Engineer. Of these, no more than 10 will be awarded the title of SHIE Outstanding Engineer.

Aug 8 to Sept 22, 2025

Eligibility

Who can recommend?

Eligible recommenders include city-level social organizations or associations, district science associations, university and enterprise science associations, as well as parks and zones with a high concentration of engineering and technical talent.

Who can be recommended?

Engineering and technical professionals working in Shanghai, regardless of nationality, are eligible for nomination. Priority is given to key contributors in Shanghai's priority industries and major projects, leaders behind new technologies and inventions, and pioneers advancing a greener future.

Basic requirements:

• Candidates must have over 10 years of frontline experience in engineering and technical work, such as production, construction, development, design, research, or management. For the SHIE Outstanding Young Engineer category, at least five years of such experience is required.
• There is no age limit for the SHIE Outstanding Engineer category, while candidates for the SHIE Outstanding Young Engineer must be under 40, born on or after Jan 1, 1985.
• Candidates should demonstrate strong innovation skills, have solved complex engineering challenges, achieved breakthrough results in their field, and made a significant impact or created notable economic and social benefits.

How to submit

Online submission

Recommending organizations should register at https://www.sastcloud.cn and then send the login details to approved candidates. Candidates should complete the online registration form and upload supporting documents. After verifying the materials, the recommending organization should submit the online recommendation form.

Written submission

Once the online recommendation is completed and approved, the recommending organizations should download and print one copy each of the recommendation form and candidate registration form. These must be stamped and sent to:
