Forum links enterprises and universities to advance AI-driven sustainable growth
A sub-forum of AI and Technology was organized on the sidelines of the 2025 Sustainability Forum was held in Shanghai's Putuo district recently. It explored ways for artificial intelligence's empowering sustainable development.

During the roundtable discussion, industry leaders focused on low-carbon practices, risk governance, and future pathways to discuss AI's practical applications in low-carbon transitions and the risk governance of green AI.
Huo Jian, general manager of automotive and energy solutions at Alibaba Cloud, highlighted the company's initiatives to lower the threshold for green technology by creating a more inclusive and trustworthy computing platform and open-source models to facilitate SME participation.
Professor Zhu Tong from East China Normal University discussed potential breakthroughs in green technology over the next decade, emphasizing AI's role in enhancing battery and chemical materials sectors.
The sub-forum established an exchange platform for enterprise and universities, focusing on the role of AI, big data and emerging technology in sustainable development—as both accelerators of green transition and new challenges in energy and ethics.
By fostering innovation, policy guidance, and cross-sector collaboration, the forum aimed to find a balance between innovation and responsibility, promoting AI as a "green intelligent engine" for a sustainable future.
