Overseas PhD professionals explore Shanghai's biomedicine development
The biomedicine session of the 2025 "Shanghai Talent+" Overseas PhD Talent Tour was held in Pudong New Area from Nov 2 to 4.
As one of the key events of the 2025 "Shanghai Talent+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Month, the session brought together about 20 biomedical experts from countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, and Germany to discuss cutting-edge technologies and innovative ideas through industry matchmaking, policy briefings, and field visits.
With a focus on internationalization, technological advancement, and youth talent, the session aimed to showcase global scientific expertise and pioneering ideas, enhancing Shanghai's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Centered around the four core themes of talent attraction, entrepreneurship, connection, and integration, the event aimed to align closely with the city's key biomedicine development goals.
During the session, 19 overseas PhDs presented their scientific achievements and development needs. The one-on-one matchmaking segment attracted dozens of key local biomedicine enterprises, research institutes, and venture capital firms, with several projects entering into preliminary cooperation agreements.
The participating overseas high-level talent included professors from the world's top 100 universities, R&D directors, and senior scientists from internationally renowned pharmaceutical companies.
At the Life Science Hub in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, they learned about the development and innovative achievements of Shanghai's biomedicine industry. They visited the Roche Accelerator to explore a world-class innovation incubator platform and gained insights into how multinational pharmaceutical companies empower startups and facilitate the commercialization of cutting-edge technologies.
Participants also visited a frontier biomedicine innovation center and the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Aiming to connect outstanding overseas talent with China's cutting-edge industries, Shanghai is enhancing its full-chain service system, integrating talent introduction, cultivation, retention, and utilization.
The city seeks to attract more overseas professionals to seize innovative opportunities in Shanghai and contribute to its vision of becoming a globally influential scientific and technological hub.
