Two new colleges established in Shanghai, enrolling students this year
The Ministry of Education recently approved the establishment of two Chinese-foreign cooperative education institutions in Shanghai, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Zhangjiang International College of Technology and the Sino-Finnish International College of Health Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences. Both institutions are scheduled to start their first enrollment in 2026.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University Zhangjiang International College of Technology
The Shanghai Jiao Tong University Zhangjiang International College of Technology is jointly established by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. The institute plans to enroll 750 undergraduate students annually, alongside 2,000 students in foreign master's degree programs, with a total projected enrollment of 5,000 students.
SJTU is widely recognized for its strong engineering foundation and has long ranked among the world’s leading universities in fields such as mechanical engineering, naval architecture and ocean engineering, electronic information, and computer science. It also possesses strong capabilities in clinical medicine, life sciences, management, science, as well as humanities and social sciences, ranking among the top universities in China for international rankings, including QS, ARWU, and THE.
Nanyang Technological University is a leading comprehensive research university in Singapore. In the 2026 QS World University Rankings, it is ranked 12th globally and third in Asia. The university has also consistently been listed among the world's top young universities established within the past 50 years. NTU is particularly distinguished in engineering and technology, with disciplines such as materials science, electrical and electronic engineering, data science and artificial intelligence, as well as computer science and information systems ranking among the best globally.
The newly established college will focus on cutting-edge disciplines. Its undergraduate programs will include six advanced majors: mechanical engineering, electronic and computer engineering, materials science and engineering, computer science and technology, information engineering, as well as data science and big data technology.
At the postgraduate level, foreign master's degree programs will be offered in data science, applied artificial intelligence, computational and financial engineering, financial technology, biomedical engineering, intelligent manufacturing, materials science and engineering, as well as technological entrepreneurship and innovation. With a planned annual enrollment of 2,000 students, the institution aims to establish a complete international talent cultivation system spanning undergraduate and master's education.
The college will adopt an independent enrollment mechanism and implement a "2+2" Chinese-foreign integrated cultivation model. Students will complete their final two years of study at NTU. Graduates can receive an SJTU undergraduate diploma, a bachelor's degree certificate from SJTU, and a bachelor's degree certificate from NTU.
Sino-Finnish International College of Health at Shanghai University of Medicine & Health Sciences
The Sino-Finnish International College of Health Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences is jointly established by Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences and Laurea University of Applied Sciences, Finland. It is dedicated to cultivating interdisciplinary talents who meet future development needs of the health industry.
In its first year, the college’s planned enrollment scale is 640 students, with 160 undergraduate students admitted.
The college will offer two distinctive majors: rehabilitation physiotherapy and data science, and big data technology, which align with China's healthy development principle and the digital transformation needs of the health industry. The two majors will both enroll 80 students annually.
The program duration is four years. Upon completion, graduates will receive a diploma and a degree certificate from Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as a bachelor's degree certificate in Healthcare or Business Administration awarded by the Finnish partner institution. Notably, obtaining a foreign degree is not conditional on studying abroad, providing a more flexible and diverse international education layout.
