The Changning selection round of the 6th Shanghai Global Talents Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition was held at the Shanghai Hongqiao One-stop Service Center for Overseas Talents from June 16 to 17.

More than 260 projects were submitted, with 82 advancing to on-site presentations and evaluations following a preliminary screening process.

As part of a flagship citywide talent event, the Changning competition focused on six sectors aligned with the city's and district's industrial priorities: artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, high-end equipment, biomedicine, green and low-carbon development, and fashion consumption.

To attract high-caliber projects, Changning district collaborated with local enterprises, international service platforms, universities, industrial parks, and overseas networks throughout the recruitment process.

Organizers also engaged overseas entrepreneurial teams through channels including Hongqiao HaiChuang Bay, China-based alliances of overseas universities, and alumni associations of institutions such as Imperial College London.

The competition combined offline project roadshows with on-site Q&A sessions. A judging panel of technology experts, venture capital investors, and human resources professionals assessed projects based on technological innovation, feasibility, market competitiveness, and team capabilities.

In addition to scoring the entries, the judges provided participants with feedback and recommendations for future development.

Outstanding projects selected in Changning will advance to the next stage of the citywide competition, where they will compete alongside innovation teams from around the world.

Changning has continued to strengthen support for overseas talent and entrepreneurship through Hongqiao HaiChuang Bay, which offers services covering project incubation, financing, and business development.

Winners may be eligible for support including investment and financing matchmaking, credit services, free office space for qualifying projects, and talent housing benefits.

Following the competition, the district will continue connecting shortlisted projects with investors, incubators, and industry resources to support their development and help them establish operations in Shanghai.
