Phase II of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) Zhangjiang Base was launched on Aug 30, marking a new milestone in regional exchanges and cooperation between the two cities in education, scientific research, innovation, and talent development.

Opened on Feb 28, the base serves as a vital platform for HKU's teaching, research, and innovation in Shanghai. It initially introduced HKU's Faculty of Computing and Data Science, focusing on artificial intelligence, computing, and data science, while also exploring interdisciplinary frontiers such as intelligent computing, future electronics, and materials manufacturing. The base has now entered a new phase, transitioning from initial planning to development.

The newly operational Building 3 features teaching and research facilities, including AI Labs, research and collaboration laboratories, the Institute of Intelligent Computing, and teaching collaboration spaces. Building 5 expands campus living spaces, offering venues for sports, interaction, co-creation, diverse campus activities, and cultural experiences.

In the new academic year, the base will welcome hundreds of students from around the world.

By leveraging Zhangjiang's advanced technological innovation and industrial ecosystem, the base will promote interdisciplinary exploration, scientific research, and industrial collaboration to attract more young talent.

The day also saw the opening of the HKU Outstanding Talent Forum Shanghai Special Session and the unveiling of the HKU AI Labs. The regional collaboration spans areas such as embodied intelligence, fintech, and AI infrastructure, as well as partnerships with incubated enterprises from HKU's Faculty of Computing and Data Science.
