Shanghai University of Sport shines bright with 19 student-athletes at Paris Olympics
As the anticipation mounts for the commencement of the Paris 2024 Olympics in just a few days, Team China is gearing up to compete on the grandest sports stage. Among the contingent of athletes representing China are 19 talented student-athletes from the esteemed Shanghai University of Sport. They are set to showcase their prowess across 11 different sports event.
The presence of Shanghai University of Sport at the 2024 Olympics underscores the institution's commitment to nurturing and developing top-tier athletic talent. It also sent eight faculty members and students to support the student-athletes on their Olympic journey, assuming roles such as coaches, referees, and other supporting roles.
The roster of student-athletes from Shanghai University of Sport are set to participate in a diverse array of sports, each bringing a unique set of skills and achievements to the Olympic arena:
Badminton
1. Chen Yufei
Graduate student.
Chinese Olympic Committee member, and women's singles badminton champion at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
2. Liu Yuchen
Graduate student.
Runner up in men's doubles badminton at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and champion of the 2024 Thomas Cup world men's team badminton championships.
3. Tan Ning
Undergraduate student, School of Athletic Performance.
Champion of the 2023 Sudirman Cup world badminton mixed team, 2023 BWF Annual Most Promising Award winner.

4. Zheng Siwei
Graduate student.
Runner up in mixed doubles badminton at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and champion of mixed doubles and men's badminton team at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
5. Huang Yaqiong
Graduate student.
Runner up in mixed doubles badminton at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and champion of mixed doubles and runner up in women's badminton team at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

6. Yang Hao
Graduate student.
Champion of men's individual and double 10-meter diving platform at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, and champion of the men's individual 10-meter diving platform at the 2024 FINA Diving World Cup.
Sport Climbing
7. Zhou Yafei
Undergraduate student, School of Athletic Performance.
Champion of women's speed climbing at the Olympic Qualifier Series (Shanghai), and runner up of women's speed climbing at the Olympic Qualifier Series (Budapest).

8. Wang Xinjie
Undergraduate student, School of Athletic Performance.
Champion of men's 25-meter rapid fire pistol team at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, and champion of men's 25-meter rapid fire pistol team and men's 25-meter air pistol team at the 2023 International Shooting Federation World Championships.

Champion of men's pole vault at the 2024 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, and champion of men’s pole vault at the 2024 China Athletics Street Tour.
11. Zeng Rui
Graduate student, School of Athletic Performance.
Runner up of the women's triple jump at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, and champion of the women's triple jump at the 2024 National Athletics Championships.
Golf
12. Yin Ruoning
Undergraduate student, School of Athletic Performance.
Second female golfer from the Chinese mainland who once ranked the world No 1, and the third runner up of the women's golf team at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Modern Pentathlon
13. Luo Shuai
Graduate student, School of Athletic Performance.
Runner up in the modern pentathlon men's team at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, and individual and team champion at the 2022 Modern Pentathlon Asian Championships.
3x3 Basketball
14. Zhang Zhiting
Graduate student.
Third place in the women's 3x3 basketball event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and champion in the women's 3x3 basketball event at the 2022 Asian Cup.
Rugby Sevens

Graduate student, School of Athletic Performance.
Champion of women's rugby sevens at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, and champion of women's rugby sevens at the 14th National Games in Shaanxi.

Undergraduate student, School of Athletic Performance.
Champion of women's water polo at the 2022 Asian Water Polo Championship, and champion of women's water polo at the 2023 Chengdu Universiade.

1. Zhu Ling
Associate professor at China Table Tennis College, who will be serving as the international technical officer (ITO) for table tennis at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
2. Zhang Mingxin
Head of the basketball teaching team, associate professor, PhD in education, and postdoctoral fellow in physical education at the School of Athletic Performance. Zhang will be serving as the head of Chinese 3x3 Basketball's technology support team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
