Shanghai swimmer Tang Qianting secures silver at Paris Olympics

Shanghai swimmer Tang Qianting won silver in the women's 100-meter breaststroke at the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 29. It is the first medal won by a Shanghai athlete in the Paris Olympics. Tang clocked 1:05.54 in the final, with Tatjiana Smith of South Africa winning gold. 

Another Chinese swimmer Xu Jiayu won silver at men's 100m backstroke with a time of 52.32 seconds, while world record holder Thomas Ceccon of Italy got to the wall first.

On the same night, Team China won silver at the men's team gymnastics final, with Japan claiming gold.
