Jiading's Millennium Ginkgo Park
Located in Shanghai's Jiading district, the Millennium Ginkgo Park is a cultural garden built around Shanghai's "No 0001" ancient ginkgo tree.
More than 1,200 years old, the iconic tree stands 24.5 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 6.5 meters and a canopy spread of 20 meters. It is recognized as the city's oldest living tree.
Tang-style garden layout
The park's design draws inspiration from a series of 100 paintings based on the poetry of Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet Du Fu, created by Jiading painter Lu Yanshao. It features eight Tang-style themed scenes, with highlights including Quzhu Garden, Qiushui Pavilion, and Guanyun Terrace.
A walking route connects these classical features — along with Yanyun Island, Qianfu Corridor, and Duiyue Pavilion — to the central ginkgo grove.
Ecological protection
To ensure the ancient tree's long-term preservation, the park maintains a dedicated protection zone of 1,329.97 square meters. A smart monitoring system tracks soil conditions, ambient temperature, and humidity in real time to support scientific maintenance.
