Enterprises in Shanghai can now renew their water-drawing permits with a single click, following the launch of the automatic renewal service introduced by the Shanghai Water Authority.

Rong Shuhua, director of the authority's administrative service center, explained that the initiative aims to simplify what was once a manual and sometimes overlooked process for businesses.

Q1: What is the new automatic renewal service for water-drawing permits?

A water-drawing permit authorizes an enterprise to legally extract and use water resources and must be renewed every five years. 

In the past, some businesses failed to renew on time either because they overlooked the deadline or found the renewal process cumbersome.

Under the new system, eligible enterprises whose water-drawing location and purpose remain unchanged will receive an automatic reminder 45 days before their permit expires. 

By logging into the "Government Online-Offline Shanghai" platform and confirming with a single click, businesses can complete the renewal without submitting applications or supporting documents.

Q2: Which enterprises qualify for automatic renewal?

All enterprises holding water-drawing permits issued by Shanghai's water authorities at various levels are included in the automatic renewal service. 

No separate application is required, as the system automatically identifies eligible enterprises and sends renewal notifications.

Q3: Are application materials needed after one-click confirmation?

No. 

Once the one-click confirmation is completed, all renewal procedures are finalized. The updated permit can be viewed and downloaded immediately from the enterprise’s online portal.

Q4: What if an enterprise misses the initial reminder?

The system will send a follow-up notification before the permit expires. 

As long as the one-click confirmation is completed before expiration, the renewal will be processed normally.
