Shanghai's Changning district advances digital economy
Changning district in Shanghai is driving progress in the digital economy.
Since introducing the "Digital Changning" strategy in 2001, the district has experienced substantial growth, especially in internet services.
By the end of 2023, the district housed over 6,100 digital economy enterprises, which combined to account for 55 percent of its tax revenue. The software information industry revenue surged by 52 percent, leading all districts in Shanghai.
E-commerce platforms in Changning recorded a transaction volume of over 1.40 trillion yuan ($192.77 billion) in 2023, a 33.5 percent increase from the previous year, ranking first in the city.
In recent years, Changning has surged in AI industry growth with over 700 enterprises spanning speech recognition, image recognition, finance, retail, smart home, gaming, and robotics.
By 2025, Changning aims to establish four 100-billion-yuan industrial clusters in intelligent internet, fashion, aviation and transportation services, as well as finance and business services.
At the core of Changning's development are specialized science and technology innovation hubs like the Shanghai Silicon Alley, which has attracted 1,000 companies since 2022, with over one-third being tech companies.
