The Hongqiao subdistrict in Shanghai's Changning district is set to hold an Overseas Talent Family Day on Jan 18.

Ethnic culture sharing

Mongolian and Uygur musicians will introduce cultural traits, historical origins, and significant role of music in Xinjiang Uygur and Inner Mongolian autonomous regions, both of which are vital areas along the Silk Road, enhancing children's understanding and appreciation of ethnic cultures.

Learning and experiencing ethnic music

Xinjiang section: Young Uygur musicians will introduce and explain traditional Xinjiang ethnic instruments such as the dutar and local songs. Children will have the chance to learn simple playing techniques and dance moves, allowing them to experience the cheerful rhythms and unique charm of Xinjiang music.

Mongolian section: Young horsehead fiddle players will introduce basic performance techniques, long-tune singing, and throat singing skills, allowing participants to appreciate the grandeur and pleasant melodies of Mongolian music. Interactive sessions will give the children the chance to play the horsehead fiddle and learn basic throat singing techniques.

Interactive games

Children will be able to wear ethnic costumes while participating in games, learn to hand-paint DIY Xinjiang drums and hats, and experience Mongolian wrestling and writing in Mongolian script!

New Year concert

A collaborative stage will be completed by professional young performers and children, bringing parents a wonderful music performance!

Brief introduction of the teachers

Zhu Lin 

图片1.pngZhu Lin is a young pianist residing in the United States, founder of LCM Land music platform, and an associate member of the Boston New Music Initiative, Jacaranda METRO, and Shanghai Intl. Cultural Exchange Assoc. She judged at the Liszt, Hong Kong, and Japan PIARA piano competitions. She holds a Master's in Piano Performance from CSU Northridge. Guided by experts like John Perry, she has held concerts in LA and premiered works by young US composers worldwide. Her work Comparison for piano and electronics was featured in a Chinese song album. 

 

Nebby

Nebby is a successor of Xinjiang folk music and founder of Shanghai Muka Culture Media.

He graduated from CUN in 2023 and founded a media company in Shanghai focusing on promoting ethnic instruments like the dutar. He has performed at major events at Shanghai Concert Hall, won multiple awards, and has over 40,000 followers on TikTok, with some of his videos garnering over 3 million views. He is known for blending ethnic elements with popular songs and collaborating with renowned rapper Ai Re.

 

阿古达木 Agudamu

Agudamu is a Shanghai Star Orchestra horsehead fiddle player.

He graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music's Sound Engineering Department and is the former lead singer of Inner Mongolia Youth Choir. He won two golds and two silvers at the 11th International Choral Festival and has performed concerts globally. He has collaborated with famous singers such as Tengger, Dedema, and Liu Huan.
