Hongqiao Ice Sports Center debuts with grand ceremony
The unveiling of the Hongqiao Ice Sports Center and the commencement of the 2025 Yangtze River Delta Youth Ice Hockey Spring League took place at the Hongqiao Sports Park on April 13.
The sports center is the first professional ice-skating rink in Changning district to be built to international standards. It boasts top-tier facilities including designated athlete and coach zones, referee rooms, VIP meeting areas, and two standard ice surfaces for competitions and training sessions.
The center hosts public fitness activities, cultural gatherings, and professional training programs. Enthusiasts can engage in skating, ice hockey, and various other ice sports through ticketed access or by enrolling in coaching sessions. Additionally, a professional club has been established to nurture young ice sports talents through a comprehensive and diverse training regime.
Encompassing an expansive area of nearly 40,000 square meters, the center offers a comprehensive array of sports such as basketball, badminton, squash, fencing, table tennis, skateboarding, skiing, ice skating, and ice hockey.
At the event, the Donghongqiao Enterprises Ice Sports Public Welfare Course Distribution Ceremony awarded course certificates to six enterprises. To enhance the accessibility of ice and snow sports, the Changning district administration of sports and the Donghong office introduced the innovative "Ice Sports Courses into Enterprises" public welfare project. This initiative, led by professional coaching teams, customizes course systems for beginners and employs engaging teaching methods.
The event also included a curling performance by the Shanghai Curling Team. The team, established in September 2024, comprises 15 contracted athletes and has excelled on the national stage under the guidance of a professional coaching team, securing significant accolades.
Following this, the 2025 Yangtze River Delta Youth Ice Hockey Spring League commenced, with athlete representative Wu Yuchen and national-level referee Gao Chenxin leading the oath-taking ceremony on behalf of the athletes and officials. The competition attracted 20 youth teams from eight cities – Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuxi, Suzhou, Ningbo, Nantong, Jiaxing, and Hangzhou.
