Changning improves medical insurance services for intl professionals
As part of its efforts to support international professionals, the healthcare security administration of Changning district has expanded its services at the Shanghai Hongqiao One-Stop Service Center for Overseas Talents in recent years.
The center now features a specialized service window that streamlines the application for medical insurance cards, manages medical record book-related tasks, and facilitates enrollment in Shanghai's resident medical insurance program.
To make it easier to access and understand medical insurance policies, the administration has implemented a direct policy communication system. This includes regular in-person briefings and the production of online policy explanation videos, ensuring that both businesses and individuals receive comprehensive support.
The center issued its first medical insurance card to a foreign national last year. Aine Kanzira from Uganda completed his medical insurance procedures, receiving both his insurance card and medical record book.
Kanzira, who earned his master's degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2023, is advancing his career as a pre-sales technical support engineer at a new energy company in Shanghai.
He appreciates the convenience of his medical insurance card, which allows for direct settlement of covered expenses. Moreover, he shares the same type of insurance code as his Chinese colleagues, enabling seamless mobile payments.
To date, the center has processed medical insurance cards and related documents for 12 foreign nationals. The district's healthcare security administration and talent bureau have also appointed specialized service representatives to provide immediate online guidance should an issue arise.
