With the summer heat lingering, finding a shaded cycling path can make all the difference. Here are three recommended routes in Shanghai that stay pleasantly cool and cover moderate distances. For the best experience, set out early in the morning or around dusk, and remember to ride safely at a comfortable pace.

Stretching 6.25 kilometers along the western section of Changning's Outer Ring, this greenway is wide, flat, and lined with trees that provide excellent shade. Cyclists can enjoy scenic highlights along the way, including the Lotus Pond Station, the Enchanted Green Corridor, and two leafy tunnels.

Shared bikes are not permitted, but riders can bring their own or rent one at designated stations. These stations also provide changing rooms, lounges, restrooms, and showers, making them ideal for a mid-ride break.

The 22-km route encircles Qingpu Loop Waterside Park, tracing the banks of the Shangda River, Youdun Canal, Dianpu River, and Xidaying Canal. The lush greenery along the water creates a calm, refreshing atmosphere for cyclists. Rest stops at Changdao, Shangshan, and Qingping offer convenient places to pause and recharge, while nearby sports facilities and shopping complexes add variety and comfort to the ride.

As one of Shanghai's five pilot country parks, Mishidu Songnan offers a cycling route of around 5 km, with some gravel stretches for those who enjoy a touch of adventure. The path runs from Changlou village to Songpu Bridge, passing through bald cypress groves and catching the cool river breeze, with the option of a ferry crossing along the way. Nearby villages enhance the rustic charm, making this route a favorite for cyclists seeking natural beauty and countryside views.
