Recommended winter citywalk routes in Changning

As late autumn gives way to early winter, Changning reveals a quieter charm in shades of gold. This curated citywalk route weaves together leafy streets, comforting local flavors, inspiring art, and serene moments. 

Route 1: Golden City Road → Ma Que dessert shop → Cheng Shifa Art Museum → Joya Hotel Shanghai Gubei

Distance: 1.3 kilometers (around 20 minutes on foot)

Golden City Road

Midway along the street, rows of ginkgo trees create a golden canopy in early winter. Fallen leaves carpet the ground, creating a romantic seasonal scene that is especially popular with residents and their pets.

A short break here offers warmth and comfort. Traditional Cantonese-style sweet soups are gently flavored and soothing — perfect for recharging on a cool day.

Cheng Shifa Art Museum

The museum's rooftop provides an open view of the surrounding neighborhood. Inside, visitors can explore Art for the People, a major exhibition marking the 65th anniversary of the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy. Running till April 6, 2026, the exhibition presents nearly 170 works spanning figure painting, landscapes, flowers-and-birds, calligraphy, and seal carving.

The walk ends in a serene, Zen-inspired setting, where a cup of tea provides a moment of calm and reflection, perfectly closing a gentle winter journey through Changning.

Route 2: Caodjiadu Catholic Church → Suzhou Creek riverside → Zhongshan Park → Longemont Shopping Mall → Hyatt Centric Zhongshan Park

Starting at Caojiadu Catholic Church, the route follows Wanhangdu Road, where historic buildings along the water create picturesque views at nearly every turn.

Zhongshan Park

With plane trees shedding their leaves, the park becomes a natural "oxygen bar" in winter. Families often pause here to collect fallen leaves — simple keepsakes that capture the season's charm.
