Changning launches global talent initiative to advance tech-powered fashion and consumption innovation
The inaugural Shanghai Silicon Alley Conference for Innovators in Technology-Empowered Fashion and Consumption was held in Shanghai's Changning district on July 28, bringing together entrepreneurs, innovators, industry experts and government representatives to explore how technology can drive the next generation of fashion and consumer industries.
The conference featured policy briefings, industry insights and business matchmaking sessions designed to strengthen collaboration among government, enterprises and financial institutions.
An initiative to attract global tech-powered fashion and consumption innovators was also launched at the event, inviting innovators from around the world to pursue opportunities in Changning. The initiative is open to people from new social groups in China and abroad, technology R&D professionals, fashion professionals, young digital creatives, and entrepreneurial talent from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions. The initiative will provide a dedicated channel for inclusion in its talent pool and match participants with industry resources, district-level support policies, and development spaces within the area.
The conference also hosted a closed-door roundtable where companies shared their business needs directly with local authorities and financial institutions. Discussions covered topics such as AI applications, digital creativity, original IP development, and financing support, with government departments and banks providing tailored policy guidance and financial solutions.
Changning has established a solid foundation for the fashion and consumer economy. The scale of the district's fashion and consumer sector has exceeded 100 billion yuan ($13.9 billion), with consumption in the sector increasing 40 percent year-on-year in 2025. Leading domestic fashion brands and more than 200 homegrown consumer brands have clustered in the district.
Since planning and development of Shanghai Silicon Alley began in 2022 and the area was included in a key municipal strategic initiative in 2024, the number of technology enterprises in the area has grown from just over 500 to more than 930. Emerging industries such as AI, integrated circuits, and new energy are clustering at an accelerating pace.
