How do I apply for a new residence permit when transferring to a university in Shanghai?
Q: I am currently studying at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou and hold a one-year study-type residence permit/student visa. Since my partner's work location is changing, I may not be able to continue my studies in Hangzhou, and I plan to transfer to a university in Shanghai after the end of this semester.
I understand that if I transfer to a university in Shanghai to continue my studies, I may first need to apply for a temporary stay permit before applying for a new study-type residence permit using the documents issued by the university in Shanghai. Is my understanding correct?
I would also like to ask the following questions:
- Given my current visa/residence permit situation, must I first apply for a temporary stay permit before transferring to a university in Shanghai?
- If not, can I apply directly for a new study-type residence permit in Shanghai after obtaining my admission letter and the required supporting documents from the university?
A: Regarding your application for a new study-type residence permit for study at a university in Shanghai:
- If you can obtain the required documents from the university in Shanghai and proof that your previous study-based residence purpose has ended within 10 calendar days after completing your studies, you may apply directly in Shanghai for a new study-type residence permit.
- If you are unable to prepare the required materials within this 10-calendar-day period, you must first apply for a one-month stay permit before submitting your application for a new study-type residence permit in Shanghai.
