What to do if my employer fails to pay into my pension fund?
Q: I work at an international school in Shanghai, and the school does not contribute to the pension fund for foreign teachers. Can I contribute myself?
A: Foreign nationals working for a local employer with a valid work permit are required to participate in the national social insurance program. Both the employer and the employee are legally obligated to make contributions.
If your employer fails to register you in the national social insurance program or does not make contributions as required, you can file a complaint at the social security center in the district where your employer is located. Be sure to bring your ID and relevant evidence, such as your employment contract.
