Yuyuan Garden was originally a private garden built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The Chinese word "yu" means "peace" and "health" – the garden's name "Yuyuan" embodies "pleasure and joy for the elderly".

With over 40 serene scenic spots comprised of pavilions, rocks and ponds, the garden is now a key site under State-level protection.

Moreover, Yuyuan Garden is connected to the City God Temple and Yuyuan Mart. The temple, market and garden are seamlessly integrated, combining temple activities, folk traditions, leisure, shopping, dining, sightseeing and cultural activities.
