A delegation of educators organized by the Confucius Institute Hamburg visited Shanghai from May 9 to 13 as part of the 2026 "Chinese Bridge" program, with support from the Confucius Institute Affairs Office of Fudan University. The visit coincided with the 40th anniversary of the friendship city relationship between Shanghai and Hamburg.

The delegation included school administrators, coordinators for international exchange and Chinese-language programs from four German schools, as well as representatives of the Confucius Institute Hamburg.

The visit marked the first time the Confucius Institute Hamburg has organized a China program for German educators.

Its aim was to further deepen China-Germany educational and cultural exchanges, help German schools gain a better understanding of China's educational development and society, expand cooperation with Chinese schools, and encourage more German students to learn Chinese and experience China firsthand.

During their stay in Shanghai, delegation members visited Fudan University as well as three secondary schools known for their German-language programs — the High School Affiliated to Fudan University, Shanghai Foreign Language School Affiliated to Shanghai International Studies University, and Shanghai Ganquan Foreign Languages Middle School. They exchanged views with teachers and students and learned about Shanghai's international education initiatives and exchange programs.

The delegation also toured the Beiersdorf Innovation Center in Shanghai and visited cultural landmarks, including Yuyuan Garden, Zhujiajiao Water Town, the Bund, Nanjing Road, and Tianzifang, experiencing Shanghai's blend of traditional culture and modern urban vitality.

Delegation members said the visit provided a firsthand impression of Shanghai's dynamic development and the hospitality of the Chinese people.

They expressed hope to further promote Chinese-language education at their schools, strengthen cooperation with Chinese partners, expand teacher and student exchange programs, and encourage more German students to study in and visit China, thereby deepening China-Germany educational and cultural exchanges.
