Shanghai Conservatory of Music to perform in Germany for Shanghai-Hamburg friendship-city anniversary
A delegation from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, led by its president, Liao Changyong, will travel to Germany for joint concerts and academic exchange activities as Shanghai and Hamburg celebrate the 40th anniversary of their friendship-city relationship.
A commemorative concert marking the anniversary will be held at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg on June 19. The event has been included in Hamburg's official anniversary program. A second concert will follow at the Konzerthaus Berlin on June 21.
The performances will bring together musicians from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Hamburg University of Music and Drama, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the two institutions and the broader cultural ties linking the two cities. Conductor Clemens Malich will lead the concerts, with musicians from the Hamburg University of Music and Drama joining a chamber ensemble from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
The program will feature a selection of Chinese, German, Austrian, and French art songs, reflecting a spirit of cultural exchange and mutual learning. Violinist Zhang Aozhe, winner of first prize at the 58th Premio Paganini, will also perform.
Shanghai and Hamburg established a friendship-city relationship in 1986. Since then, cultural and educational exchange has remained a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation.
The Hamburg University of Music and Drama has been one of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music's key international partners. The two institutions signed a cooperation agreement in 2005 and have since maintained close collaboration in performance, teaching and academic exchange.
