A customized Adidas T-shirt featuring the Chinese phrase "进城办事", meaning "going into town to run errands", has attracted widespread attention and drawn shoppers to three of the brand's flagship stores in Shanghai.

The phrase originated from an awkward machine translation in an Adidas product description and quickly gained traction as a viral meme on Chinese social media.

Capitalizing on the online buzz, Adidas launched a customization service on June 2, allowing customers to have the now-famous phrase printed on its T-shirts.

Where to get it

The service is available at three Adidas flagship stores in Shanghai:

1. Anfu Road Flagship Store (No 322 Anfu Road)

2. East Nanjing Road Flagship Store (Building C, No 1 Department Store, No 800 East Nanjing Road)

3. Xintiandi Flagship Store (Room 1F104 & 2F205, Xintiandi Style II, No 245 Madang Road)

Customization options

Two text options: Customers can choose between "进城办事" and "在城里办事", both loosely meaning "running errands in town". Customized text is currently not available.

Personalized placement: Shoppers can adjust the size and placement of the slogan, and mix and match it with other original graphics in store.

Classic styles: The prints are available on Adidas's classic three-stripe T-shirts in both short-sleeve and long-sleeve styles.

Prices

The total price includes the T-shirt and a separate printing fee:

• White short-sleeve T-shirt: 399 yuan plus a 49 yuan printing fee, for a total of 448 yuan (about $66)
• White long-sleeve T-shirt: 499 yuan plus a 49 yuan printing fee, for a total of 548 yuan

Processing time and availability

The entire process takes about 15 minutes. Shoppers can place their order and make payment at the counter, watch their T-shirts being printed on site, and take home their customized apparel the same day. There is no limit to the number of customized T-shirts that can be purchased through this service.
