The 2025 Head of Shanghai River Regatta is set to make waves on Suzhou Creek from Oct 2 to 3.

The event will feature two marquee competitions: a challenging 4.2-kilometer pursuit race and an exhilarating 500-meter urban sprint. Athletes will compete across various categories, including the world super elite, university, club, honorary contribution, and youth divisions, drawing approximately 650 participants.

On Oct 2, competitors will tackle the 4.2-km pursuit race alongside the youth 500-meter urban sprint. The following day will feature two rounds of the 500-meter urban sprint, promising high-speed thrills and intense rivalry.

This year's elite category marks a significant leap in both scale and competitive intensity. Top-tier international eight-person rowing teams from powerhouses such as Australia, Poland, and the United States will showcase their prowess. Fresh from the 2025 World Rowing Championships, these teams are set to bring their peak performance directly to Suzhou Creek, promising a spectacle of world-class athleticism.

The single sculls event is equally compelling, with six world championship-level male rowers confirmed to compete in the elite group, adding further prestige to the regatta.

In a bid to enhance both competition structure and international engagement, this year's event has introduced significant upgrades in the youth category. The men's quadruple sculls event remains, while the mixed-gender quadruple sculls has been replaced with a women's quadruple sculls event. Notably, Canada's Ridley College will make history as the first North American youth team to participate, further fostering international sports exchange and friendship.
