The highly anticipated 14th WPA 9-Ball China Open kicked off on Sept 10 at the Cultural and Sports Center in Pudong's Tangzhen town, recognized as China's first "hometown of billiards". This prestigious tournament has attracted top-tier players from over 30 countries and regions, including the world's top 16 ranked male and female players in 9-ball pool.
The competition saw a dramatic preliminary round conclude on Sept 9. Players from China and around the world competed for spots in the main event, with eight men and eight women advancing after three days of high-stakes matches. The main event on Sept 10 features a prize pool of $373,600, with $40,000 for the men's champion and $36,000 for the women's champion.
Since its inception in 2009, the 9-Ball China Open has been at the forefront of innovation in cue sports. This year, organizers have introduced a unique jersey exhibition at the venue, showcasing a collection of player uniforms, referee attire, and staff workwear from the tournament's beginnings to the present, offering insights into the event's rich history and evolution.
Adding to the excitement, the 2025 tournament has launched an inaugural ticket stub promotion. From Sept 10 to Oct 8, spectators with ticket stubs can enjoy exclusive discounts at nearby tourist attractions, major shopping centers, and select well-known businesses. The promotions span over 10 categories, including dining, entertainment, and jewelry, enhancing the experience for fans and visitors alike.
