Shanghai Half Marathon on March 15: Plan ahead for traffic changes

The 2026 Shanghai Half Marathon will be held in Pudong New Area on March 15. To ensure the safety and smooth operation of the event, temporary traffic controls will be imposed on certain roads and in surrounding areas.

I. Traffic control measures

(1) From 10 pm on March 14 to 2 pm on March 15, Yongyao Road (from Yaolong Road to Dongyu Road) will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians.

(2) From midnight to noon on March 15, Dongyu Road (from West Yangsi Road to Yongyao Road) will be closed to all motorized and non-motorized vehicles.

(3) From 10 pm on March 14 to 8:30 am on March 15, the following roads will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians:

  • Fenghe Road (from Mingzhu Roundabout to Binjiang Avenue)
  • Binjiang Avenue (from Fenghe Road to West Lujiazui Road)
  • West Lujiazui Road (from Mingzhu Roundabout to Binjiang Avenue)

(4) From 6:45 am to 10:45 am on March 15, traffic controls will be implemented in stages along the half-marathon route as runners approach.

Half-marathon route: Fenghe Road (start) →Lujiazui Ring Road (south) → Middle Yincheng Road → Puming Road → Expo Avenue → Bailianjing Road → Bocheng Road → West Gaoke Road → Expo Avenue → Yaolong Road → Longbin Road → Yaojiang Road → Dezhou Road (U-turn) → Yaolong Road → Yongyao Road → New Bund Avenue → West Huaxia Road (south) → West Huaxia Road (north) → New Bund Avenue → Yaoti Road → Yaolong Road → West Gaoqing Road → West Yangsi Road (U-turn) → West Gaoqing Road → Yaolong Road → Yaoti Road → New Bund Avenue → Yongyao Road → Oriental Sports Center (finish).

Specific control measures are as follows:

  • On multi-lane roads with a central divider, traffic in the same direction as the race will be prohibited. Traffic in the opposite direction may proceed normally, provided it is safe to do so and the race is not affected. On roads without a central divider, motorized vehicles will be prohibited in both directions.
  • On roads with barriers separating motorized and non-motorized traffic, non-motorized vehicles must slow down and keep to the right, or be pushed along the sidewalk. On some roads, non-motorized vehicles will also be prohibited from traveling in the same direction as the race. On roads without such barriers, non-motorized vehicles are prohibited.
  • Motorized and non-motorized vehicles may cross the race route under the direction of police officers on duty, provided this does not interfere with the runners.

(5) Only vehicles with official half-marathon permits will be allowed to enter the restricted roads listed above.

During the event, some bus routes that overlap with the half-marathon route will be suspended, shortened, or diverted. The traffic management department may adjust the timing of the controls or expand or reduce the restricted areas depending on actual race conditions.

II. Ferry service adjustments

During the suspension period, the relevant Huangpu River ferry terminals will be temporarily closed.

  • Dongjin Line and Dongfu Line: Suspended from 6:45 am to 7:40 am on March 15.
  • Yangfu Line: Suspended from 6:45 am to 7:50 am on March 15.
  • Tangdong Line: Suspended from 6:45 am to 8 am on March 15.
  • Nanlu Line: Suspended from 6:45 am to 8:15 am on March 15.

III. Drone restrictions

During the traffic control period, drones and other "low, slow and small" aircraft will be prohibited from flying over the following roads and within 500 meters on either side of them:

  • Fenghe Road (from Mingzhu Roundabout to Binjiang Avenue)
  • Binjiang Avenue (from Fenghe Road to West Lujiazui Road)
  • West Lujiazui Road (from Mingzhu Roundabout to Binjiang Avenue)
  • Yongyao Road (from Yaolong Road to Dongyu Road)
  • Dongyu Road (from West Yangsi Road to Yongyao Road)
