The 8th SCO International Team Chess Tournament 2026 is set to take place from April 7 to 11 in Shanghai's Qingpu district. Classified as a Category B international mind sports event, the tournament serves as an important platform for cultural and people-to-people exchanges among member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The five-day event will bring together more than 130 athletes, officials, and staff. The semifinals and finals are scheduled to be held at Qushui Garden in Qingpu.

In addition to China's two national teams, strong contingents from Russia, Kazakhstan, and other countries and regions will compete. The tournament follows the latest regulations of the International Chess Federation and features 11 rounds of round-robin play. Shanghai's world champion Ju Wenjun will lead the home lineup alongside top players Ding Liren and Yu Yangyi, showcasing high-level chess on familiar ground.

A series of side events will also be held during the tournament. Grandmaster and former world champion Xie Jun will visit local schools to engage with young players.

Beyond the chessboard, the tournament offers participants a chance to explore Qingpu's cultural and commercial attractions, including Zhujiajiao Ancient Town, Bailian Outlets shopping village, and Panlong Xintiandi, combining competitive excitement with local experiences.
