The Shanghai round of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP) will be held from Sept 11 to 13 at Haiwan Outdoor Sports Field, home to the Shanghai International Off-Road Circuit, in Fengxian district.

It will be the only Asian round on the 2026 calendar and could play a decisive role in determining this season's championship titles.

The event will feature four competition classes: MXGP, MX2, 250cc, and 85cc, with 33 teams and more than 90 professional riders from 22 countries and regions. Eight world champions are expected to compete.

The MXGP lineup is expected to include Belgian rider Lucas Coenen, the 19-year-old current championship leader; five-time world champions Jeffrey Herlings of the Netherlands and Tim Gajser of Slovenia; and France's Romain Febvre, the reigning MXGP world champion. Leading teams, including KTM and Triumph, are expected to compete in the MX2 class.

Event schedule

The three-day event will include practice sessions, qualifying races, and championship races, with the main MX2 and MXGP races taking place on Sept 13.

Venue and track

The venue has more than 4,500 permanent seats, including VIP seating. With temporary viewing areas added, it can accommodate up to 15,000 spectators per day.

The track features 15 technical turns, 18 sections with varying gradients, and several long-distance jumps with significant elevation changes, giving spectators clear views of the racing and airborne action from throughout the venue.

Beyond the races

The event will also feature a day-to-night sports carnival. Three activity zones around the circuit will offer more than 40 booths showcasing motorcycles, accessories, and official merchandise, along with test rides, food, performances, and family-friendly activities such as MiniGP, go-karting, racing simulators, VR sports, and robot battles.

Activities will extend to neighboring Xinghuo Park, where visitors can enjoy camping, pet-friendly activities, water recreation, food markets, treasure hunts, and live performances.

Ticket holders will be eligible for special offers throughout September, including discounts at participating shopping centers and travel packages combining event admission with accommodation and visits to popular Shanghai attractions.
