Shanghai to host 2026 China SUP Polo Open with upgraded scale
The 2026 China SUP Polo Open Tournament will take place at Xinjiangwancheng Sports and Culture Park in Shanghai's Yangpu district from Oct 16 to 18, bringing together 25 elite teams from across the nation.
Often dubbed "water polo on paddleboards", SUP polo combines paddleboard balance with team-based ball tactics. Marking its second year in Shanghai, this national event features an expanded lineup, three standard competition courts, and a prize pool of 66,800 yuan ($9,987.74).
A total of 25 teams and more than 200 athletes will compete across Open, University, and U15 Youth divisions, up from 16 teams last year. The tournament bridges professional sports and public engagement, attracting seasoned players and young talent.
A water-themed lifestyle market featuring food, beverages, and sports equipment will run alongside the competition. It offers visitors an immersive taste of Shanghai's relaxed, modern waterfront living.
The opening ceremony is set for 9 am on Oct 17, with finals taking place on Oct 18. The public can watch the competition on-site for free.
