Can I use separate tickets for the 240-hour visa-free transit, or do I need a through ticket?

Q: We are three Mexican citizens traveling together.

Could you please confirm whether our itinerary qualifies for the 240-hour visa-free transit policy, even though our Seoul-Shanghai and Shanghai-Japan flights are on separate tickets issued by different airlines?

All three travelers hold valid Mexican ordinary passports.

Specifically, we would like to know whether a confirmed onward ticket to Japan under a separate reservation is sufficient, or whether both flights must be issued on a single through ticket.

A: Based on your description, your itinerary meets the requirements for the 240-hour visa-free transit policy.

Please note that purchasing the tickets separately does not affect your eligibility. However, at entry, you must present a valid international travel document with at least three months of validity remaining, along with a confirmed ticket with a fixed date and seat for your onward trip.
