The 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference Scientific Frontier Plenary Session took place on July 26 in Shanghai's Xuhui district, bringing together the world's foremost AI experts for high-level discussions on the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI).

The session explored the deep integration of AI and fundamental sciences. It demonstrated AI's transformative power in reshaping research methodologies across various disciplines, positioning it as a driving force for future technological revolutions.

Among the distinguished guests were Geoffrey Hinton, the 2024 Nobel laureate and 2018 Turing Award winner, as well as Richard Sutton, the 2024 Turing Award winner and computer science professor at the University of Alberta. These pioneers shared insights on the evolving landscape of AI, sparking vibrant discussions on the future of AGI development.

At the session, Shanghai AI Lab unveiled major research and innovation breakthroughs across seven areas: general-specialized model integration, scientific discovery platforms, collaborative innovation achievements, embodied intelligence technologies, computational solutions, security technology architectures, and innovation index reporting. These developments underscore the lab's continued efforts in advancing AI applications and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the field.
